How to keep paint from drying out
We all know that feeling when you start a project only to find out that your paint has dried out. It’s frustrating, and it can set you back hours or even days. But there are ways to prevent this from happening.
Here are our top tips:
1. Store your paint in a cool, dry place. Heat and humidity can cause paint to dry out, so avoid storing it in places like the attic or garage.
2. Check the expiration date. All paint has an expiration date, and once it’s expired, it’s more likely to dry out.
3. tightly closed when not in use. This will prevent air from getting in and drying out the paint.
4. Add a few drops of water if the paint is starting to dry out. This will re-hydrate the paint and make it easier to work with.
5. Use a humidifier in your workspace. This will help to keep the air moist, which will prevent the paint from drying out.
6. Cover your paint brushes with a damp cloth when you’re not using them. This will prevent the bristles from drying out and becoming brittle.
7. Take breaks while painting. If you paint for too long without a break, the paint will start to dry out on your brush. So take a few minutes every now and then to rest your brush in a cup of water.
8. Clean your brushes regularly. Paint that’s allowed to dry on your brush will be much harder to remove, and it can damage the bristles. So make sure to clean your brushes after each use.
9. Use a sealant. If you’re going to be storing your paint for an extended period of time, consider sealing it with a layer of varnish or polyurethane. This will create a barrier that will prevent the paint from drying out.
10. Make your own paint. If you’re really worried about your paint drying out, you can always make your own. There are many recipes online for homemade paint, and it’s usually cheaper than store-bought paint. Plus, you’ll know exactly what’s in it and how to keep it from drying out.

If you’re painting a larger surface, like a piece of furniture, oil-based paint is a better choice. And if you’re looking to create a chalkboard, chalkboard paint is the way to go.
