Ever since we moved in to our new house, I’ve been annoyed by how difficult it is to move my king-sized bed in order to vacuum underneath it. It’s one of those old-fashioned sleigh beds with a wooden frame and four bulky posts—definitely not something you can slide across the floor! The problem was so bad that I had to start picking up the bed and carrying it out of the way whenever I wanted to vacuum.
I finally decided this was intolerable, and started looking into ways to solve the problem. After a little bit of Googling, I found my answer: felt rug pads . Rug pads are those thin adhesive sheets you can stick under your area rugs that makes them feel more cushy, and prevents them from sliding around.
I ordered one of these rug pads, thinking it would be perfect for my bed. It was—just not quite the way I expected. This pad is so grippy that it’s nearly impossible to move the king-sized mattress by itself once the pad was attached. In the end, I decided to stick it under my mattress, where it’s a perfect fit. Then I laid down a smaller square of felt over the top. It runs right underneath one corner of my bed—which happens to be its most difficult-to-reach spot.

Though it does take a few minutes to reach under the bed and find the hand-held attachment, I’ve found that sliding my vacuum right along the pad makes cleaning much easier than when I had to move the whole bed every time. It’s well worth the little bit of extra hassle in order to gain all this free floor space underneath!
